Abstract
This study aims to examine how the representation of romance in the Lara Ati film depicts the dynamics of relationships between social classes through Roland Barthes' Semiotics approach. This film is interesting to analyze because it not only presents an ordinary love story, but also provides an illustration of social reality, especially the influence of economic status and cultural pressure on romantic relationships. This study uses a qualitative approach with the Roland Barthes Semiotics method, which includes denotation, connotation, and myth. Data collection techniques are carried out through in-depth observation of the film and supporting literature studies. Researchers identify visual and audio signs and symbols that represent romance. The results of the study show that the Lara Ati film represents romantic relationships as a relationship that is inseparable from the influence of social and economic classes. Romance in this film is not depicted as an idealization of love alone, but as a form of complex emotional struggle, colored by social reality. This representation reveals that true love in society is often defeated by social myths about the importance of economic stability and status. Thus, this film provides a critical reflection on social norms in romantic relationships and becomes a medium to voice the issue of class inequality.
