Rachman, Izayana Agnesia. 2024. "Comparison of Otaue Matsuri Ritual in Aizu
and Panje' Rajeh in Madura". Undergraduate thesis of Japanese Language and
Culture Study Program, Faculty of Cultural Sciences, Diponegoro University.

Japan and Indonesia are countries that are very close to the agricultural sector.
Both countries have traditional cultures in the agricultural sector, otaue matsuri
and panje' rajeh, which have similarities with each other. This research aims to
explain the otaue matsuri ritual ceremony in Aizu Japan, and the panje’ rajeh ritual
ceremoni in Napo Laok Madura, highlighting the similarities and differences
between these two ceremonial practices. This research employs a qualitative
research methodology with an analytic descriptive approach. The research utilizes
two sources of data: primary data obtained through structured interviews with
informants from Japan and Indonesia, and secondary data derived from literature
reviews of scientific articles, news articles, and documentary videos relatet to the
subject. The theoretical framework guiding this research is Charles Tilly’
encompassing comparison analysis.The purpose of employing encompassing
comparison is to compare thoroughly and find similarities and differences in the
otaue matsuri and panje' rajeh ritual ceremonie. Based on the analysis, the otaue
matsuri and panje' rajeh ceremonies have similarities in mythology, purification
procession, parade, rice planting ceremony at a spesific rice fields, traditional
dance and music performances, and practitioners. Differences between the two
rituals are observed in the procession of kamen shishi jyuyo, hatsuyo-sai, kangyo-
sai, mamaca, time, and ritual attributes.
