JKT48 is a Jakarta-based idol group that has become a major icon in the
Indonesian entertainment industry, with an active and fanatical fan base that is often
compelled to purchase various idol-related items. The purpose of this research is to
know the factors that influence overspending behavior among JKT 48 fans on online
shopping platform and to know the impact of overspending behavior on the lives of
JKT 48 fans. The method used in this thesis uses a qualitative approach through
interviews with five JKT48 fan students in Jakarta. This research is based on Mike
Featherstone's consumer culture theory. The results showed that students'
overspending is influenced by internal and external factors. This overspending brings
positive impacts such as a source of entertainment, increased social status, and access
to exclusive products. However, there are negative impacts such as personal financial
problems, social pressure, and products not as advertised.
