Abstract
This study aims to analyze the communication pattern of self-disclosure of Surakarta Muhammadiyah University students in the use of second accounts on Instagram. Social media has become the main platform for modern social interaction, where features such as second accounts allow users to share personal information more freely. This research uses descriptive qualitative method with purposive sampling technique to determine informants who actively use second accounts. The results show that students use second accounts to express themselves authentically, in contrast to the formal image on the main account which functions as the front stage. Self-disclosure on second accounts is influenced by factors of comfort, trust, and emotional closeness to a limited audience. In addition to providing a space for free expression, second accounts also act as a social laboratory to understand the dynamics of digital interaction. This research provides insights into how social media affects the interpersonal communication patterns of the younger generation and the importance of digital literacy to maintain privacy boundaries in the use of second accounts. Thus, this research contributes to understanding the phenomenon of self-disclosure in the evolving digital era.
